Mancave v2.0
Ok, I don't know if I already started a thread for this or not so here is a new one. Here is what I am working with (Thanks go out to Floorplanner.com).
![]() The breaker panel is in the top left corner on the left wall, and there are 2 windows on the left wall. Top right corner has a pipe for the "Radon Mitigation System" as well. I am interested to get a few thoughts. Currently I am planning on a bar on the right wall and screen on the left. Where the 3 posts are shown there is a crossbeam running the length of the basement, so I will have a sofit there. On that note, what are some recommendations on projectors? (somewhere around $1000) Also, are the mounts universal? I want to make sure I incorporate 2x4s into the ceiling to mount to.

I might suggest running it the opposite direction. That would give you more room to get around/behind the bar. Additionally I like having my screen recessed into an area slightly wider than the screen itself. That extra little bit of side wall can block out some of the light that might otherwise hit the screen and wash out the image.

What if we get the Home Theater Crew together and bounce some ideas around. You could buy beer and pizza for everyone. Hell even V can come along even though yours may be finished before his.

Bar is on the right so it can be a wet bar, originally I had the same thought you did Hodge. If the crew wants beer and pizza that is my standard payment for helping me finish it. I got about 50% framing done this weekend with this method haha.

you need carpet tiles Chris V. If they get wet pull em up and take them to the porch to dry. LOL

Im not sure what your looking to do with your bar but I can save you ALOT on custom mirrors and glass shelves. Ive been a glass man by trade for 9 years and have done several bars for some pretty famous people at work. I have a few pics of some if you may be interested

I'm really happy with my Mitsubishi HC4900 projector. There are several great buys on 1080p projectors now. The mounts are not usually universal, but you can buy a mount that allows you to change the actual part that bolts to the projector should you ever change to one with another bolt pattern.
If you're going to put the screen on the left, keep in mind that people coming down the steps will likely walk right in front of the screen on their way to the seating. You'll want some way to block the light from those windows. I made some panels that velcro into place and covered them with fabric. Since your room is so deep, I'd also suggest building out the front wall with the screen a bit, and make a rectangle around the screen about a foot larger on each side. That will give some depth and give you some room to mount speakers, etc. Have you thought about where you're going to put your equipment?

Im pretty set on the projector wall, but it has a window and circuit breaker box there. So I am wondering what options I have, is a drop down projector screen less quality than one that is mounted right on the wall? I am thinking either that or I will have to put it on some sort of hinges to still have access to the circuit breaker.

You can set the screen on the wall with cleats. This will allow you to just lift the screen off the wall. Speagle has his like this.

You could build the screen wall out a few feet allowing you to access the breaker and creating some storage at the same time. You should check some of ours out, I promise you will get some great ideas.

If you want to an open area setup go check out bill's, if you are interested in an enclosed dedicated theater come by and see mine. I will try to post a couple pics, but you can't get much perspective from them

Here's a video on mine I did to show the IR controlled lighting. Like Chris said, it's really hard to get perspective.

Prey, what are the dimensions on your room? And how far back is your projector. Im thinking I might be able to turn my whole room the other way from seeing your video.

Throw distance is dependent on the projector you pick and the screen size.

Go here and search for your projector or something similar to what you want.
It has calculators for size of screen versus throw distance versus zoom levels Mine is like 90" at 9' back http://www.projectorpeople.com/ |
