cam question

A friend of mine thats hurting bad for money asked me if I wanted to buy his parts for an LT1 he was building. I really didnt have any extra money to spend on my car right now from being off work 3 months but I couldnt pass this one up.

For $200 I got bran new in boxes.....

Speed Pro forged flat top pistons and rings...30 over
Eagle I beam rods (already fitted with pistons)
Clevite main, cam, rod bearings
ARP main studs, head studs, and rod bolts
Melling oil pump
Complete gasket set
OEM timing set
2 different Comp cams
Comp Cam valve springs and titanium retainers

I dont know much about cams but he said one was for a blower application (custom grind) and the other was smaller. Can anyone tell me anything about them or what would be the best one to use?

one says...

CAM SPECS---INT EXH
ADV DUR: 290 306
DUR @ .050: 234 244 LOBE SEP: 113.0
VALVE LIFT: .545 .565

the other one...

CAM SPECS---INT EXH
ADV DUR: 290 307
DUR @ .050 230 245 LOBE SEP: 112.0
VALVE LIFT: .510 .540

Thanks

Damn, he basically just gave you those parts! Is the valve lift at 1.5 or 1.6 rockers? If I HAD to pick one of the 2, I would use the 234/244 .545/.565 on 113 as it should offer more power. The reason it is a blower cam over the other is the 113 LSA, the higher LSA bleeds off 'slightly' less pressure vs the other cam. However, it has much more lift and more duration, so I would go with that over the small cam.

If it were me...I'd sell them both online and go with a custom cam for the most power.

damn good deal im with him sell em both get a custom grind. The top one is a meaner cam. If you do it right you should be able to get a new cam and hardened push rods. Be careful however im not shure how much lift stock lt1 heads can handle with out some serious grind mods.

I would love to just use a proven combo like you said, how much do you think I should ask for them? Theyre $239 new and never been opened.

Im not to concerned with anything to do with the machine work required for anything, if the big ones work good and my heads need work then ill do it. My best friends dad has worked for Republic Diesel as a machinest for 30 years. He has an entire machine shop at his house, he builds motors on the side for anyone but mainly balanced and blue printed race engines.

I could get any of you guys a smokin deal on machine work, you could hang out and watch your engine get machined/built for a few night to. Really good people.

I dont think that Crane makes the 10308 kit anymore Its what I ran when I had the 306 but about 2 months ago Jegs had the 10308 kit for like 115 bucks and now they have an indefinite time on ever getting them back in stock.

I would still go with a custom grind. You will make more power even at lower duration with a custom grind. Just contact Lloyd Elliot or Advanced Induction about your goals for the car. If the engine is getting rebuilt, you might as well get a cam that you can grow into whenever you do get ported heads, and get it spec'd for the heads/RPM/power that you plan on making with the car.

I would really like to use the 306 cam because my builder can port really well but everything Im reading about this cam is 50/50, some people like it and others say its a 20 year old cam that doesnt make power until 6200-6400rpm. Its already here why not use it?

Also, the springs I have are cc986's. Are they good or should I sell them and get beehives? Also would the other blower cam I have be any good for spray?
