Finally time for that fuel pump

After owning a racetronix fuel pump, hot wire kit, and autometer fuel pressure gauge for 3ish years, looks like I'm finally getting around to installing them I hooked up the fuel pressure gauge today to test the stock pump, and it was doing what I expected. 55ish at idle/part throttle, dropping to 50 at WOT & high RPM. Fuel tank is nearly empty now, so the pump goes in next week!

Got the pump/hotwire kit in and tested it. Now holds 58-59psi at idle/part throttle. Drops down to about 52-53psi now at WOT in the upper RPM range, although it drops slower than before. Kinda strange, I thought others with the same kit said it held the pressure at WOT, but maybe not. I haven't read about them in years.

As for the kit, very nice! Extremely detailed instructions for the install, and they even went so far as to include the correct size paper clip to remove the fuel sender terminals from the stock plug No instructions with the hotwire kit, but it's pretty idiot proof.

I am doing a Walbro in-line with a sump in my tank for the Chevy II. If I am not mistaken, it is the same basic pump as the Racetronix. I will also be hot-wiring it in my new fuse panel.

I almost bought this pump yesterday but bought the walbro 255 instead....saved myself $60.

Wouldnt it hold better pressure with an aftermarket regulator to go with the pump? I mean if you went to the trouble to do a $400 upgrade your stock fuel system wouldnt a regulator be in order also?

I don't know of anyone that makes a new regulator to fit in the tank. The best thing to do with the LS1 from what I've heard is to add a return line to the front of the car, and put a regulator near the rails. Upgrading the stock rails is usually done at the same time as that, I think.

I don't think I really need to go through all that trouble at this point. My injectors are only at 60ish% duty cycle, and the tune is spot on.

To be honest Im not that familiar with the LS1 fuel system thats kind of why I was asking..with the regulator being in the tank it sounds like alot of work to upgrade. I was just thinking possably a good regulator may keep your fuel pressure dipping a WOT since you know you have a good pump now.

I agree that what you have now is more than enough fuel at the pressure and %'s your at now. sweet car!

What size injector are you using, and what fuel pressure gauge? I wonder if it only holds pressure with the smaller injectors. Next time I get on LS1Tech, I should probably do a search.

I'm running 30lb Ford SVO injectors and used just a normal fuel pressure guage on the end of my fuel rail.

Finally did a search, and found an answer straight from Racetronix:
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/fuelin...p-low-psi.html

Quote:
Nominal operating pressure should be between 58-62PSI. Idle pressure may drop slightly as the fuel system warms up. Under WOT fuel pressure may gradually drop as low as 52PSI. If your fuel pressure drops off more drastically then you may require the FPR relocation and / or the booster.

Sounds like I'm fine

Yeah, the problem is that the reg is in the back of the car. That pump is supplying more then enough fuel but the regulator can not keep up. Fuel pressure drop is only a REAL problem when it is inconsistent or is dropping too much.
